The Harmonic Concordance Weblog

It seems as though it was just the other night that we looked up at the Total Lunar Eclipse that was one of the major features of the astrological chart which heralded the Harmonic Concordance.1 The celebrations and ceremonies that took place then marked the single largest spiritual assemblage, at one specific moment in time, in recorded history.  Untold millions of spiritually oriented people around the Planet – from Moscow to Malaysia, from the Aleutians to Tierra del Fuego, took time, individually and in groups small and large, to join in a moment of prayerful common intent.  From literally thousands of locations around the globe simultaneous prayers went out for three specific intents:

the actualization of our individual relationship with the
One Source of Creation,
the unconditional acceptance of Unity Consciousness
(that we are all ONE) and
a healing for our beloved Mother Earth,
the source of our physical manifestation.

The chart of that moment displayed a distinctive pattern, or “signature,” visible even to the untrained eye.  The astrological holograph of that the moment is fundamentally spiritual in nature, and can be understood in terms of Quantum Meta-Physics as well as by ‘astro-spiritual’ metaphor.   It speaks of the descent of God-Consciousness upon this plane, a moment in time when humankind might make a concerted effort to rise up to meet that descending Spirit.  We also know that this moment has always been open to those willing to step through it.  Although that chart depicts a moment now in our past, the energies embodied in it can still be used to show us how to activate that moment in the ever present and only moment of NOW.

For those who are new to the Harmonic Concordance or who might not remember what all the astrological fuss was about and what so interested astrologers around the world,  this very first essay on the astrology of the Concordance,  The Chart Heard ‘Round the World might be helpful, while Why Are We Here? might bring to mind the hope that the Concordance continues to engender in every moment we choose to embrace the power of that NOW.

But that Concordance was also a part of the continuum in time that began with the Harmonic Convergenceof August of 1987, and which will culminate with the Mayan Calendar end date in December of 2012.2 Other sign posts along that path include the Concordance Quintiles of 2004, the Concordance Pentecost of 2005and the Aquarius Stellium of February, 2008.  Now we are fast approaching another of those time markers, the 5th Anniversary of the Concordance, this coming November 7/8.

One of the ways an astrologer might look at an anniversary chart is to see what the Transits would bring to the original chart.  However, the way I do this is to look at the Solar Return for the date in question, although that Return date might occur the day before or after the calendar anniversary date.   In this case the Solar Return is the day before.

Just as any birthday or anniversary may be the occasion for a celebratory gathering of family and friends, so too are we planning to have such a gathering in our own High Desert community on the evening of November 7th.   We invite you to join us, wherever you are on that evening, individually or in groups, as we renew our connection to that model of Ascended Man depicted in the Concordance Grand Sextile and reaffirm our commitment to the “ascension attitudes” of Love, Praise and Gratitude.

The Solar Return

One of the ways an astrologer might look at this Anniversary chart is to see what the Transits would bring to the original Concordance chart on its anniversary.   The way I do this is to look at the Solar Return for the chart, since a Return is really the astrological anniversary date for any given chart.

There is a subtle but significant difference between what these two images above depict.  The first, the Solar Return, is intended to project the energies available to the “native” during the entirety of the coming year.  In short, it is a snapshot of what the year offers.  The “Overlay” on the other hand, is basically the transits for the day.  I’ve used the Return date for this merely because of the symmetry of having the Sun at the exact degree as it was on the Concordance day.   Other than that, it’s a transits chart, which speaks about the energies of the specific time of the transits.  More about these differences in the referenced articles.

Solar Arc Directions

There are several other ways that we can look at an anniversary chart.  One that will be familiar to astrologers is to progress the chart to the desired day.  While most astrologers use the Secondary, or “day for a year” progressions, I have long preferred the Solar Arc Directions.

There are two elements of note in any Solar Arc Progressed chart reading.  The first and perhaps most notable distinction between it and a Secondary Progressed chart is that in the Solar Arc Directions the pattern that  is born at that moment remains as the chart progresses throughout the life. An apt analogy here is  that the way the planets are laid out in a chart, its pattern, may be seen as analogous to a person’s DNA at birth. And just as a person’s DNA does not change in the course of a  lifetime, so does the planetary pattern that the Solar Arc Directed chart provides remains constant.   In the Concordance chart, that birth “DNA” contained a Grand Sextile in compatible signs as well as a Total Lunar Eclipse!

The second element which arises out of the Solar Arc Directions for any chart is the significant difference in the Sabian Symbols associated with each degree of the chart that is not present when the Secondary Progressions are applied.

1. You will recall that the original Concordance was celebrated on November 8th or 9th of 2003, depending on which side of the International Date Line one was on at the time of the Total Lunar Eclipse. The same holds true for this Anniversary as it applies to the Solar Return date for the chart, November 7/8, 2008.

2.  Interestingly, the 9th Anniversary of the Concordance (NINE is the number of “completion”) just coincidently will be only a few short weeks before the Mayan Calendar 2012 end date.  In other words, the first completed Concordance cycle coincides nicely with the “completion” of the Mayan Calendar.
